FDA Alert: Counterfeit Glucose Test Strips
2006, October 13th.An alert warning about fake blood glucose test strips has been released by the U.S. FDA. The alert refers to strips intended for use in several blood gucose monitors by LifeScan, Inc.
Although no injuries have been reported so far, FDA warns that use of counterfeit test strips may yield incorrect blood glucose values, and this may result in an incorrect dose of insulin and cause serious consequences.
The reported lots of counterfeit test strips are:
- One Touch Basic® or Profile® (lots 272894A, 2619932 or 2606340)
- One Touch Ultra® (lot 2691191)
All involved lots are for 50-count Test Strip packages
These lots are being sold in the U.S., but mainly in Florida, New York, Ohio, Missouri and Maryland, and also in Quebec, Canada.
If you have these counterfeit test strips, stop using them, contact your doctor and replace them without delay. You may call the company at 1-866-621-4855.
